St. Louis CyberKnife Participates in Lung Cancer Connection Run/Walk

On Saturday, April 16, St. Louis CyberKnife co-sponsored a booth at the annual Lung Cancer Connection Run/Walk with SSM Health.

The family friendly event, now in its seventh year, was held at the beautiful Chesterfield Amphitheater in Chesterfield, Missouri.

The Run/Walk is the Lung Cancer Connection’s biggest fundraiser of the year.  Every dollar contributed goes towards financing free programs that support St. Louis’s lung cancer community and educate the general public about the fight against lung cancer.

Race day activities included a Zumba warm-up, guest speakers, survivor recognition, a 5k course for participants to either walk or run, food, live music, kids tent with clowns and face painting, and much more.

Team members from St. Louis CyberKnife were on hand to talk with event participants about lung screening accessibility and patient criteria, as well as discuss what CyberKnife technology is and how it treats lung cancer.  Representatives from SSM Health offered participants free packets that included helpful resources for smoking cessation.

In addition to co-sponsoring the event, employees from St. Louis CyberKnife and SSM Health participated in the Run/Walk.  Shawna Cass, Physician Services Representative from St. Louis CyberKnife, ran the 5k and finished 2nd in her age group.  SSM Health had a 5 person team mixed with runners and walkers, including SSM Health St. Louis University Hospital’s world-renowned thoracic surgeon, Keith Naunheim, M.D. and Executive Director of SSM Health Cancer Care, Shannon Veltrop.  Dr. Naunheim placed 2nd in his age group and Shannon placed 3rd in her age group.

The event was a huge success with over 900 participants who raised $90,000!

St. Louis CyberKnife was proud to be a part of such an important event that celebrates lung cancer survivorship, honors those who have lost their battle with the disease, and raises money to help those fighting the disease.
