Studies Show Support for CyberKnife Treatment of Neurological Diseases
A study presented at the annual meeting of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) demonstrated the growing support of CyberKnife® for the treatment of neurological diseases.
The study, completed at the University Hospital of Messina in Italy, examined CyberKnife treatment for perioptic meningioma, a type of benign tumor that arises from the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord.
The noninvasive treatment approach preserved vision while maintaining tumor control within 64 patients treated in 2-5 treatment sessions. The results of the study demonstrate the clinical benefits of CyberKnife for perioptic meningiomas, which may be more difficult to treat with other methods such as surgery.
At St. Louis CyberKnife, our multidisciplinary team uses the CyberKnife to treat a number of neurological diseases and disorders, including meningiomas, trigeminal neuralgia and brain metastases. View our conditions treated page to learn more.
